Punjab Govt Launches E-Challan System in Bahawalpur

Bahawalpur: The Punjab government has officially introduced the E-Challan system in Bahawalpur under the Safe City Project, marking a major step toward modernizing traffic management and improving road safety.

According to an official statement, the initiative mirrors successful implementations in other major cities of Punjab and is backed by advanced surveillance technology. Dozens of AI-powered CCTV cameras have been installed at key entry and exit points, busy intersections, main roads, and government buildings across Bahawalpur.

These smart cameras actively monitor traffic violations in real time—such as over-speeding, running red lights, and illegal parking—and automatically generate an electronic challan. Unlike traditional paper challans, the new system sends violation details directly to offenders through SMS, email, or the online portal, including the fine amount and payment instructions.

The Punjab government believes this step will strengthen law enforcement, reduce manual intervention, and ensure transparency in traffic regulation. By minimizing human involvement, the system aims to cut corruption, save time, and promote fair enforcement for all road users.

Officials added that the E-Challan system is not only about penalizing offenders but also about educating the public to adopt safer driving practices. With technology-driven monitoring in place, drivers are expected to become more disciplined, ultimately reducing accidents and making roads safer for citizens.

This rollout in Bahawalpur represents a significant expansion of Punjab’s digital governance vision, ensuring that the city benefits from modern tools designed to improve urban safety and efficiency
