Heavy Rain and Flooding Threaten Islamabad and Punjab: NDMA Issues Warning

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a weather alert forecasting heavy rainfall in Islamabad and several districts across Punjab from September 1-3, raising concerns of urban flooding and increased river flows. Areas including Murree, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Sialkot, and Faisalabad are at heightened risk.

With rising water levels at Head Marala, flood risks have escalated, prompting authorities to warn residents in vulnerable areas to remain vigilant and avoid traveling on flooded roads.

According to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), ongoing floods in Punjab have already affected over 2 million people, with more than 33 lives lost and around 750,000 individuals evacuated. Authorities are emphasizing the importance of preparedness and safety during this critical period.

Meanwhile, concerns have been raised over India’s delayed flood warnings under the Indus Waters Treaty, exacerbating the challenges faced by Pakistan.
